You spoke and we listened!

The Coalition is launching the global youth consultations this 6 November as a follow-up to the first consultations launched late 2019, before the 2nd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety (WYA).

During the first round of consultations, more than 1,500 youth voices were gathered from 54 countries. These voices expressed the demands and commitments youth had when it came to issues surrounding safe roads and sustainable mobility in their regions and communities. These youth opinions culminated into the Global Youth Statement for Road Safety, adopted at the WYA in February 2020.

This time, the consultations will show that young people can take real action for safe and sustainable mobility. The goals of the second consultations are to;

1) Follow up with all young people who were initially consulted and give them updates on how the Coalition is acting on their opinions;

2) Involve new leaders in the process of expressing views, opinions, and experiences about the reality youth face that relate to road safety and sustainable mobility;

3) Support youth in designing and implementing local plans reflecting your reality on the ground be localizing the Global Youth Statement; and

4) Track the progress of different actions and plans so that these can be reported to key stakeholders.

Through the consultations, the process of meaningful youth participation for safer roads and sustainable mobility all over the world will be prioritized. Young leaders will be able to address road safety issues in their community by creating concrete actions to implement the demands and commitments written in the Global Youth Statement for Road Safety.

Through the members of the Coalition and the participants of the youth consultations, the Global Youth Statement will be localized in different regions. The statement will help guide youth in leading the change for a safer world for young people everywhere.

Young leaders who had conducted the first round consultations are encouraged to invite the same people who participated so that they can report the outcomes of the WYA. First-time consultation leaders are to invite young people aged 15 to 29 from any background; community organizations, artistic collectives, volunteer groups, etc.

Because of the global pandemic, we advise young leaders who are planning to hold youth consultations to do it online. In the event of face-to-face or onsite consultations, we highly advise youth leaders to follow health and safety protocols in their respective communities.
