SHARE YOUR PERSPECTIVE ON ROAD SAFETY AND MEANINGFUL YOUTH ENGAGEMENT TODAY!

The Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety has set up a Global Youth Consultation that will gather the perspectives of young leaders that show the connections between road safety and broader development issues This will provide valuable insights to influence and advise policymakers in strategies to #RethinkMobility.

YOUTH CONSULTATIONS REPORT

From November 2020 to February 2022, we invited young leaders worldwide to participate in a second round of our Youth Consultations to gather data on young people’s overall ideas and actions on road safety challenges in their communities. This round also served as a follow-up on youth commitments from the first round of Youth Consultations reflected in the Global Youth Statement for Road Safety. The second call resulted in 117 consultations that were participated by over 700 young leaders.

From the results of all the consultations, youth leaders shared what kind of projects they wanted to focus on. From the results, we were able to classify the most common project types; community mobilization, peer-to-peer engagement, infrastructure change, and advocacy. The predominant project-type recommendations fell under community mobilization because youth see that there is a need to get more people involved in efforts to fight road traffic crashes as the biggest threat to the lives of young people.

The Youth Consultations and its results are made possible with the support of our technical partner, the World Health Organization (WHO), our Programme Partners TotalEnergies Foundation and Michelin Corporate Foundation, and our Partner FIA Foundation.

YOUTH CONSULTATION OUTCOMES

GLOBAL YOUTH STATEMENT FOR ROAD SAFETY

The first round of consultations were submitted by the 160+ delegates from 74 different countries who attended the 2nd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety that took place in Stockholm, Sweden last February 2020. The document listed down the demands and commitments of young people around road safety, sustainable mobility, and meaningful youth engagement. The document also looks at road safety through the lens of the Sustainable Development Goals, showing the interconnectivity of road safety with other development issues experienced around the world.

The Global Youth Statement was initially presented to global ministers, leaders, decision-makers, and policy makers during the 3rd Ministerial Conference on Road Safety last February 2020.

youth consultations report 2022

Our youth leaders were guided by our Youth Consultations toolkit which allowed them to design project ideas they could possibly implement in their communities. They mapped out relevant stakeholders that could act as partners to implement the suggested ideas.

During the consultations, our youth leaders discussed how their voices were heard and represented through the Youth Statement. They identified the main road safety challenges they faced in their communities and used them as guidance to design their project's objectives and potential activities through an action plan template also in the toolkit.
