What is a Local Action?

A Local Action is a short- or mid-term, youth-led project designed to address urgent road safety and mobility issues in a specific community. Led by members of the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety, these actions turn evidence into advocacy and bold ideas into real impact.

Whether it’s redesigning a public space, launching a data-driven campaign, or pushing for policy change, every Local Action brings youth perspectives to the forefront of decision-making.

Each year, up to 15 Local Actions are selected through an open call. Selected projects receive:

  • Mentorship from experts in road safety, urban design, advocacy or mobility

  • Advocacy and technical support to strengthen strategy, communications and policy work

  • Seed funding of up to €5,000

  • Visibility and partnerships through the Global Youth Coalition's global network

Since 2021, Local Actions have been implemented across Africa, the Americas, the Eastern Mediterranean, Europe, and South-East Asia, reaching over 25 countries and counting. From city streets to rural roads, young people are reimagining mobility and making their communities safer, more inclusive, and climate-friendly.
