THE ENGINES BEHIND THE COALITION
The Youth Leadership Board (former Youth Advisory Board - YAB) is the focal point and the engine behind the Youth Coalition for Road Safety. Through their expertise, advice, and concrete actions, youth can weigh in directly on how all local actions and global advocacy strategies are run.
The YLB will help ensure that the work within the Youth Coalition is consistent with and reflects the realities of youth and in support of the achievement of the Global Youth Statement for Road Safety.
For their mandate, the YLB will proactively share their views on the strategy design and help implement specific milestones of the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety during their 24-month term. The role of the Youth Leadership Board is to ensure that youth interests and voices are always represented at the center of the Coalition’s decisions, including the diversity of youth opinions, geographic locations, as well as gender, cultural, and local reflections.

MEET THE YOUTH LEADERSHIP BOARD
DEEPANSHU GUPTA, INDIA
Deepanshu Gupta was born in India in 1998, and he is a non-profit leader with a degree in Commerce. Initially working as a human capital consultant to impact organisations, he later co-founded India's largest youth-led organisation, which works on elevating road safety in India. Deepanshu's journey in road traffic safety advocacy was catalysed by a deeply personal experience – his father's involvement in a traffic crash. His leadership extends beyond borders, as he actively participates in diverse global youth boards to amplify youth voices and demand accountability. He has specialised in road safety and sustainable mobility and is trained in community-driven initiatives and youth engagement strategies. He has collaborated with various non-profit organisations, youth associations, corporations, state governments, central government, and intergovernmental organisations to push forward the road safety agenda. His contributions have brought together diverse stakeholders to work collaboratively on road safety,
ESTIARA ELLIZAR, INDONESIA
A transport planner who is currently working at the Ministry of Transportation, Indonesia, and a certified Indonesian young road safety expert with experience in road safety for over five years.
HAIDARSHO MAKULSHOEV
Haidarsho is from Tajikistan and has experience working across five pillars of road safety and was one of the winners of the Impact Generation Challenge during the 2nd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety. He is currently working on Urban Resilience Program within Aga Khan Agency for Habitat in Tajikistan.
LINDA NEKESA, BELGIUM
Linda is a road safety professional and advocates from Kenya working to improve road safety with a focus on the global south. Passionate about active youth engagement in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Linda had already served the Youth Coalition as a regional leader for Europe from 2021 - 2022.
LUKE VAN WYK, SOUTH AFRICA
Luke van Wyk was born in Durban, South Africa, in 2000. He is a Civil Engineer with a degree in Civil Engineering from Stellenbosch University. He specialises in and is passionate about public transportation and safer #StreetsForPeople and is trained in Transport Systems: Global Issues and Future Innovations. He has collaborated with various organisations aligned with safer streets, such as Young Urbanists South Africa and Stellenbosch Fietsry, since 2019. As an advocate for quality public transport, non-motorised transport, and safer roads, he has lobbied for such in Cape Town and South Africa as a whole. He has also researched and written papers submitted in the Southern African Transport Conference, which prove and call for improved sustainable transport systems and safer streets.
OLIVA NALWADDA, UGANDA
Oliva is a public health practitioner with over six years of experience in design and implementation of youth-centered programs in areas of reproductive and mental health, climate change, empowerment, and advocacy.
SALMAN KHAN, INDIA
Salman Khan was born in Mumbai in 1998, and he is a junior doctor with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from Grant Medical College and Sir JJ Group of Hospitals. He has collaborated with the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations (IFMSA) and the Medical Students' Association of India (MSAI) since 2017. As a young health activist and peer-to-peer trainer, he has trained medical students on multiple public health issues, including non-communicable diseases, climate change, road safety, and antimicrobial resistance, and also represented medical students worldwide in multiple high-level UN and WHO meetings.
VALERIA CARRIÓN MORENO, PERU
Valeria Carrión Moreno was born in Lima, Peru, in 1998, and she is a Civil Engineer from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). She has specialised in Urban Mobility, Road Safety, and Traffic Management and is trained in Infrastructure and Mobility Management from the PUCP. Since 2019, she has collaborated with Vías PUCP, the Municipality of Lima, and Lima Cómo Vamos. As a Traffic Microsimulator, she analyses and optimises vehicle and pedestrian flow in conflictive intersections within the city. Valeria has participated in several school zone road safety projects and volunteer activities to improve urban sustainability, inclusivity, accessibility, and safer mobility in her town. She has also participated as an organiser and speaker in forums and events on urban topics.
RAY MACALALAG, PHILIPPINES
Ray Adrian Macalalag was born in Iloilo City, Philippines, in 1992, and he is a civil engineer working in the government sector as a Senior Economic Development Specialist, Policy Formulation and Planning Division in the Western Visayas Regional Office of the National Economic and Development Authority. He has a bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering and is currently pursuing his second master's degree in transport from the University of Sydney under the prestigious Australia Awards Scholarship. He specialises in road safety, land use and transport policy and planning and is trained in technical writing, mapping, data analytics, and graphics design. Trained by experience as the longest serving editor-in-chief of the university-wide publication during his bachelor's degree in the University of San Agustin, he maintains a blog entitled Ilonggo Engineer where he writes various content about transportation as well as his journey through life. Starting with his early years as an engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways, he has been collaborating with the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development since 2016 for road safety initiatives, and with the Philippine Information Agency for training young writers and other government institutions on publication design, photojournalism, and data visualization. As a public servant, he was recently recognized as the Outstanding Regional Technical Employee of the National Economic and Development Authority in the Philippines. He has been a young leader of the International Road Federation Young Professionals Programme for over three years, which gathers young professionals in the road transport sector in the annual Young Professionals Summit.
YASMINE AL MOGHRABI, USA
Yasmine is a Lebanese young leader named one of the top 10% of changemakers around the world who has taken action on behalf of the Global Goals. She holds a master's degree in Road Safety Management and a master's degree in Highway, Transportation, and Traffic Engineering. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering in the USA and she is passionate about road safety. Currently, she is a regional road safety leader in North America chosen by the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety.
