Rethinking How We Move: Why Transport Matters for People and the Planet

Transport connects us to education, jobs, healthcare and countless daily opportunities. Yet, the way our mobility systems are designed also shapes air quality, climate impact, equity, and, for many young people, their safety and freedom of movement. As cities grow and global challenges intensify, rethinking how we move has never been more urgent.

To mark World Sustainable Transport Day and build momentum ahead of the official launch of the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport, we are hosting a special Live Session: Youth Power Unlocked to Advance Sustainable Transport on:

  • 26 November 2025

  • 15:00–16:30 CET

  • Zoom Live Session -  Register here: LINK

This event will bring together global experts, youth advocates and mobility practitioners to explore why sustainable transport matters for people and the planet, and what needs to change in the decade ahead.

What you’ll get from this session

1. Explore youth mobility trends with global experts: Led by the YOURS Capacity Development Team and Parnika Ray,  Policy Analyst & Project Manager, International Transport Forum (ITF), this segment breaks down youth mobility trends and insights from ITFs latest research, and explains frameworks to promote sustainable mobility in a brain friendly way.

2. Understand the Decade of Sustainable Transport (DoST): Riina Jussila, Sustainable Development Officer, United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), will introduce the DoST: why it was created, what it aims to achieve, and how it connects mobility with climate, equity, sustainable development, and road safety.

3. Identify ways youth and the Coalition can advance sustainable transport: Join interactive moments and breakout discussions designed to help Coalition members generate grounded and blue-sky ideas for action throughout the decade.
