DATAMOBILIZE:EMPOWERING YOUTH FOR SAFER ROADS

The project, DataMobilize: Empowering Youth for Safer Roads, aims to improve youth road safety in Yaoundé by implementing a platform to improve road safety data collection, enhance young road safety skills, facilitate targeted interventions, and empower youth active participation.

The project involves establishing a road safety observatory, to engage youths and decision-makers in road safety. It includes youth engagement in the development of the platform to report, explore, discuss, and learn about road safety, youth led road safety training of youth and decision makers and safety assessment of high-risk area, youth lead consultation with decision makers to advocate for safety improvement and youth inclusion in addition to youth led online consultation to gather youth need; challenges to demand action for safety improvement.

The project envisions in the long term, improved access to road safety/ mobility for better awareness and safer behavior, improved youth active participation safety reporting and solution design, improved stakeholder road safety planning, improved road safety knowledge sharing via the Cameroon road safety observatory.


ABOUT THE PROJECT LEAD

 

Steffel is a Civil Engineer and PhD candidate at Sapienza University, specialising in innovative technology in road safety. He is an advocate of sustainable development with continuous road safety experience at the World Bank Cameroon Transport Project Implementation Unit.

In his current role as Transport Consultant at, CTLup, he collaborates with the research group in developing technology-based road safety and sustainable transport solutions in different region with an emphasis on LMICs. He was a key researcher at the National Advanced School of Public Works (NASPW) in the framework of the SaferAfrica, a EU funded project to improve road safety in Africa, encompassing road safety data review, an African road safety observatory and the development of crash database in Cameroon hosted at the NASPW.

He is currently an International Road Assessment Programme - iRAP practitioner, a Youth Coalition SDG3 champion and active member of renowned youth lead group as the IRF Young Professional Program and the UNESCO Global Youth Community.
