Drive Right Transforming Public Transport Operations

Project theme: Sustainable, Inclusive and Active Mobility (SIAM) solutions; Speed reduction

BY WILLIAM WAMBULWA

Drive Right – Transforming Public Transport Operations (Pilot) is a youth-led initiative in Nairobi, Kenya, aimed at reducing speeding and enhancing matatu (public service vehicle) safety. By combining operator training, youth-led speed monitoring, and policy advocacy for 30 km/h zones, the project tackles reckless driving, protects vulnerable road users, and fosters active mobility.

Our approach integrates data-driven feedback for drivers, community awareness campaigns, and stakeholder engagement with local authorities. Ultimately, this pilot seeks to create a replicable model for safer, more sustainable urban transport, mitigating collisions and improving quality of life for Nairobi’s residents.
