HEY IM MOVING ON TWO WHEELS

The project encourages the Dushanbe authorities to promote cycling as an official policy. Bicycles provide time-saving transportation that significantly increases access to income, health, and education. The project seeks to empowers communities by strengthening bicycle culture.

With a holistic approach, the project will provide the opportunity for all segments of the population to switch to a bicycle. It will also work with young people to promote active mobility in terms of road safety, green mode of transport, advocacy, education, health, environment, gender rights and sustainable urban development.

The main activities include: a campaign to disseminate cyclist's protective equipment (helmets, reflective elements, lights and reflectors), based on consultations and surveys with young people about the location of the proposed construction of cycle paths, promoting cycling and finding solutions to remove barriers such as poor infrastructure, first aid awareness (post-crash response), road safety (traffic training); petition to decision makers to implement safe cycling infrastructure; advocacy and agitation to promote an alternative mode of transport (bicycle) as an environmentally friendly and green, thematic bike rides, such as bicycle events and quests and policy dialogue to raise awareness among local stakeholders about investing in and promoting active mobility, road safety and the gender right to travel safely and freely.

ABOUT THE PROJECT LEAD

Dilshod is a member of the "Young generation of Tajikistan". He was semi-professional road and mountain bike cyclist and has traveled to many places by bicycle. He currently works as the assistant of the manager in road safety and post-crash response projects. The organization works in the framework of “Popularization of alternative transport (bicycle, walking and public transport) by promoting and demonstrating best practices in Dushanbe. “We try to instill a culture of cycling and draw the attention of decision makers and society that alternative transport environmentally friendly and does not require such large financial investments as a car (be it gasoline, repairs and maintenance, a garage).”

PROJECT UPDATES

Cycling festival -mountain bike

For his project, “Hey, I’m moving on two wheels”, Dolshov Kholmatov and his team held a series of cycling activities throughout the implementation of his project. These events include a cycling festival, a “Mass Ride” activity, and a bicycle road safety training session. Each event focused on promoting cycling as an alternative mode of transport in the city. They also talked about traffic rules for cyclists and some important tips to remembers to ensure their safety on the road.
