Safe Neighborhoods for Little Feet Project

Project theme: Sustainable, Inclusive and Active Mobility (SIAM) solutions; Speed reduction

BY BRUNO batista

Safe Neighborhoods for Little Feet is a youth-led project to requalify a school-centered area in Canoas (RS), Brazil, through creative, low-cost urban interventions. The space includes schools, plazas, and pedestrian routes used daily by children and caregivers. The project will engage the local community in participatory workshops, awareness campaigns, and a tactical urbanism intervention with painted crosswalks and curb extensions. Children will actively take part in designing and painting the space. Promoting safer, more inclusive streets, the initiative is a replicable model for child-centered mobility and supports long-term efforts to build healthier, more accessible cities.
