Safe Steps, Bright Futures

Project theme: Sustainable, Inclusive and Active Mobility (SIAM) solutions

BY MANIKA BAMMA

Safe Steps, Bright Futures is a youth-led initiative aimed at improving child road safety in the Kathmandu Valley. In response to alarming rates of child pedestrian fatalities, the project works in partnership with local governments and educational institutions to transform unsafe school routes into safe and sustainable pathways. Youth volunteers play a central role in mapping routes, implementing safety interventions, and leading awareness campaigns.

The project promotes inclusive mobility and aligns with global goals, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), by fostering community ownership, empowering youth, and creating safer environments for children to access education.
