This project aims to enhance the safety and mobility of young women and persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Yaoundé, Cameroon, by empowering them to speak about their experiences. The project seeks to help them travel more safely while advocating for a more inclusive and accessible transport system.
The project will identify the safety and mobility challenges faced by young women and PWDs who frequent downtown Yaoundé through surveys, interviews, and focus groups. It will also strengthen the capacity of young women and PWDs in road safety through training and workshops.
The team will promote a gender-inclusive transport system by assessing available transport options in high-risk locations, empowering young people to raise awareness of the challenges faced by young women and PWDs through the arts, and engaging in advocacy efforts.
One of the project’s key goals is to implement an advocacy strategy that prioritises the needs of women and PWDs by involving decision-makers, stakeholders, transport operators, and the media. This approach aims to push for the implementation of the report’s recommendations and ensure that the needs of women and PWDs are considered in future transport projects.
