A Movement of Impact: Celebrating 5 Years of the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety
A bold idea took shape five years ago: a united front of young leaders demanding safer roads for their generation. Today, the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety stands as a testament to the power of youth activism, with over 3000 members from more than 130 countries driving real change. As we celebrate this 5-year milestone, we reflect on the impact, the victories, and the road ahead, because the movement is only getting started.
Since its launch in 2020, the Coalition has grown into the largest global network of young road safety advocates, proving that youth are the future and the present. From lobbying governments for stronger road laws to leading the #ClaimingOurSpace movement worldwide, Coalition members have turned passion into policy.
The numbers speak for themselves: 2,000,000 people have been reached through Local Actions, with more than 59 projects implemented in more than 23 countries, and over 1,000 members trained in advocacy, policy, and leadership. From the halls of the UN to the streets of local communities, the past five years have shown what’s possible when young people are given the necessary tools, the platform, and the belief that they can transform the world.
The Coalition’s advocacy has reached the highest levels of global decision-making. We have had coalition representatives address the UN General Assembly, influence the Stockholm Declaration on Road Safety, and push for youth inclusion in the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030. Through initiatives like Local Actions 2025, young leaders have turned advocacy into tangible impact, launching projects and initiatives that advocate for road safety and sustainable mobility in their communities. By providing young advocates with the right platforms and helping them break barriers, the Coalition’s youth leadership curriculum has equipped hundreds with the leadership skills, ensuring that youth voices shape transport policies, engage with governments, influence legislation, and mobilise communities.
What’s New? A New Era of Connection For Coalition Members
Change happens together. Road safety is a global crisis, but solutions are often local. As we grow in a digital world, we envision a social network platform where members can interact freely, exchange ideas, and access resources to learn and elevate their advocacy efforts. What if young road safety advocates from Nepal to Nigeria, Colombia to Azerbaijan could connect, collaborate, and mobilise instantly?
That vision is now a reality. The Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety launched the CoalitionHUB, a first-of-its-kind social networking designed to unite, empower, and amplify youth working to save lives on the roads. The platform bridges that gap by giving advocates:
A dedicated space to share ideas, campaigns, and resources
Real-time networking with peers in 100+ countries
Access to exclusive trainings, events, and funding opportunities
How It Works
Connect: Join regional or thematic groups. Learn: Access toolkits, webinars, and mentorship from experts.
Act: Mobilise support for local projects or global campaigns like #ClaimingOurSpace.
No more working in isolation. The CoalitionHUB is an environment for young leaders to grow.
As we look ahead, the next five years will demand even bolder strides toward zero road deaths, climate-friendly mobility, and systemic change. With this growing movement, young changemakers are ready.
