Working for more connected regions: Training of Trainers comes full circle

After months of collaboration, localised training, and regional action, the Training of Trainers (ToT) Programme 2024–2025 came full circle during its closing event on 21 October. The event brought together trainers, members, and partners to celebrate how this journey helped make the Global Youth Coalition more connected, skilled, and ready to raise awareness about safer roads.

Launched in June 2024, the ToT Programme was designed to strengthen the Regional Leaders’ skills as trainers, enabling them to deliver tailored capacity-building “Localised sessions for their regions”, after attending a virtual training of 5 sessions where they learned how to design online sessions following the YOURS’ award-winning training methodology. Through the localised sessions, young leaders bridged time zones, languages, and contexts, turning global tools into local learning experiences.

What they achieved

Over the past months, the ToT Programme delivered impressive results:

  • 24 localised sessions designed and delivered across four regions

  • 589 attendees from around the world

  • 25 guest speakers strengthening partnerships across regions

  • Increased knowledge, rated 4.4/5 by participants

  • More engagement from members and new connections across continents

For many participants, the programme was not just a professional experience; it was a turning point. Thanks to the Regional Trainers’ leadership, the ToT Programme not only transferred knowledge but also sparked collaboration. Sessions were translated, adapted, and localised to reflect each region’s culture and realities, creating a learning space where every voice counted.

“The ToT program has helped me a lot personally because before participating in this ToT program, I didn't know how to use interactive tools during online live sessions. Before that, I used to run online programs without a proper structure. However, after this program, I have learned a lot, and it has led me to become more skilled as I continue to practice more during localised sessions. I find myself becoming an expert. All of this is thanks to the ToT program.”  Pedius Boniphace, Regional Leader from Africa (Tanzania)

“Participating in this program allowed me to gain valuable professional experience that strengthened my CV and gave me credibility as a young leader and trainer in road safety, so now I am confident to train and advocate more about road safety. Through the localised sessions, I improved my public speaking and presentation skills, and I broke the ice since I am a shy person. It also helped me feel more connected to the Coalition community, as I learned from other youth leaders and got inspired by the YOURS team, that continue to inspire my work in Jordan and UAE, and hopefully this program will open closed doors for me in my career path. Since I am looking for a full time job now.”

As YOURS and the Global Youth Coalition continue enabling youth to shape safer and more sustainable mobility systems, the achievements of this ToT cohort stand as a reminder that change begins when young people take the lead.

A big thank-you to all trainers, Regional Leaders, guest speakers, and partners who made this programme possible.
