SAFE

by Babatunde Bale FROM NIGERA

Project SAFE is a community-based and technology-driven solution to improve and equip road users on awareness and adherence to road safety and post-trauma care through peer-to-peer engagement, drone technology, and virtual reality.

Using virtual and augmented reality technology, the project will immerse commercial drivers in realistic driving environments and expose them to the consequences of irresponsible road behavior such as speeding and non-use of seatbelts. This method will provide them with an engaging and eye-opening experience of why safe driving is important. It will also result in the organization of a fellowship program that will train secondary and tertiary institution students in Lagos State on basic life support skills required to provide first aid treatment to helpless accident victims on the road.

A mobile and web application with user-friendly and interactive illustrations to teach and practice basic life support skills in drivers' and students' native languages will be one of the outputs of the project. Users of the application will have access to a centralized directory of emergency information (such as ambulatory service, fire service, or police) in their immediate vicinity based on their GPS location. The application will also provide an automated drone delivery service of life-sustaining medical supplies.
