Ask the Congress for Safer Speeds is an advocacy and technological innovation project that aims to empower youth to meaningfully participate in the decision-making process of reducing urban speed limits.
The recently created Argentinian Safe Mobility Coalition, led by Asociación MiNU, is pushing for an Urban Speeds Reduction Law in the National Congress in the midst of a rearrangement of the Argentinian political scenario.
The project's primary goal is to place youth as leaders and facilitators of advocacy campaigns in Argentina by supporting the campaign for an urban speed reduction law with new tools, thus aiding in reducing road crash-related deaths and injuries.
This project also aims to promote youth participation in the Argentinian Safe Mobility Coalition through individual activism or their own youth organizations. The project will have two stages. The first aims to develop and adapt Democracia en Red’s presionar.com, a vote tallying platform showing each legislator’s stance to the Urban Speeds Reduction Law.
Asociación MiNU’s young volunteers and other young advocates will map the legislative scenario, both to fill in the platform, as well as to identify champions and legislative coalitions. The second stage promotes the campaign and the use of the platform through youth-led in-person activities in Buenos Aires City, where the street will be artistically intervened to show how important it is to lower speeds.
