Youth Coalition Celebrates World Health Day

7th April 2024 - The Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety celebrated World Health Day with a social media campaign that highlighted the linkages between road safety and public health.

Through World Health Day, different organisations and institutions look to mobilise individuals, communities, and policymakers to take action toward achieving better health outcomes for all, regardless of socioeconomic status or geographical location. It serves as a reminder of the fundamental right to health and the collective responsibility to ensure that everyone can lead a healthy and fulfilling life.

In this context, World Health Day emphasises the health rights of youth, who face unique challenges in accessing healthcare and navigating health-related issues. From injury prevention caused by road traffic crashes to addressing other health concerns stemming from transportation systems, the youth population requires targeted interventions and support.

Through the World Health Day Campaign, the Youth Coalition raised awareness of the impact of Road Traffic Crashes on the well-being of adolescents and youth. The campaign also looked to mobilise youth advocates to engage in impactful advocacy initiatives actively, amplifying their voices towards safer road journeys for all.

To cap off the Campaign, the Youth Coalition will hold a Webinar titled “Youth at the Intersection of Three Public Health Priorities: Transport, Well-Being, and Climate". The Webinar aims to explore the challenges faced by young people exposed to unsafe transport systems. By examining the interconnections between transport, well-being, and climate, the webinar seeks to facilitate dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the development of solutions to promote the health and well-being of youth worldwide.

It will feature a score of high-level speakers which include Ex-Director General of Traffic in Spain Dr. Maria Segui Gomez, Founder and Strategic Coordinator of the NADA Foundation for Safer Egyptian Roads Dr. Ahmed Shelbaya, Technical Officer in the Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) unit in the WHO Egypt Country Office Dr. Heba AlSawahli, Liaison Officer for Public Health Issues at the IFMSA Dr. Salman Khan, and Youth Coalition Members Dr. Mohamed Eissa, Dr. Rim El Sherbiny, and Steffel Ludivin Feudjio Tezong.

The esteemed speakers will share their expertise and knowledge on why and how road safety intersects with different public health issues such as physical activity, mental health, and psychological well-being. Don’t miss out! Register TODAY!
