CHAMPIONS FOR ROAD SAFETY

BY Michelle Gaibor

The Road Safety Champions project aims to empower young individuals aged 18-35 across Ecuador advocates for road safety within their communities.

Through comprehensive training and qualification, participants will become equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to promote the adoption of the road safety ordinance and concepts of safe mobility in their own territories.

A national call for participation will be launched via social media platforms, inviting interested individuals to apply. Ten young people, representing diverse backgrounds and abilities, will be selected—two from each city—with a focus on gender parity and inclusivity.

Once selected, participants will undergo intensive training, covering advocacy, communication, road safety, and active mobility. Upon completion, they will assume the role of Road Safety Champions, actively engaging with municipal authorities and media outlets to advocate for the adoption and implementation of the road safety ordinances and road safety and sustainable mobility actions.

The project seeks to cultivate a network of young advocates who can contribute to road safety efforts at both local and national levels. These Champions will serve as key facilitators in bridging the gap between stakeholders and the successful adoption of road safety policies.
