JOURNEY TO SCHOOL

BY ICHOR SELUMUN PAUL

The project Journey to School Project aims to incorporate the Safe System Approach to advocate and create safer street around school zones for students thus resulting in a reduction of road traffic injuries in the street areas mostly used by students.

The project will employ a strategic approach which seeks to advocate for safer road infrastructure, 20-30km/h speed limits, and safer road practices for students and other vulnerable road users.

The goal of the project is to transform streets by extending sidewalk, using chicane and placing zebra crossing where students naturally cross.

The project will carry out public awareness campaigns to educate schools and the public about road safety, map out school along highways and streets, create risks maps to gather data, implement star rating for schools methodology pioneered by the International Road Assessment Program(IRAP). It will also organise Youth campaign that make use of the slogan "JOURNEY TO SCHOOL".
