Global Youth Coalition Member Feature: Goran Bosnjak

Goran Bosnjak is from the Republic of Srpska, a part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He is a traffic engineer specializing in traffic safety. As a traffic engineer, he plays a critical role in promoting road safety and creating a safer transportation environment for the people in his country.

At 26 years old, Goran has had experience with handling traffic safety for the last 10 years. His first involvement in traffic safety happened before the beginning of his education and his employment. He continues sharpening his knowledge with a road safety-centered Master’s program.

According to Goran, road safety in Srpska still needs improvement. He reports that in 2022, they had a hundred road crash fatalities. “Of course, we are not satisfied with that because our goal is for the number of fatalities to be zero. Also, the highest number of fatalities, as many as a third, are young people, that is, those from 18 to 30 years old.”

Goran adds that young people should be involved as much as possible in organizations dealing with traffic safety and urban mobility with the aim of making our country and the entire planet a healthier place to live.

To support efforts to improve road safety, Goran writes scientific papers about road safety to present to different conferences as part of his work. He has authored ten papers on the topic.

As a member of a traffic safety agency, Goran has various responsibilities that include developing and implementing road safety policies and strategies, conducting research and data analysis to identify trends and risk factors, organizing educational campaigns to raise awareness about road safety, working on infrastructure planning and improvement, and collaborating with other organizations and stakeholders to coordinate road safety initiatives.

“By working in a traffic safety agency, I have the opportunity to contribute to reducing road accidents, improving transportation infrastructure, and enhancing overall safety and well-being in my country. My efforts can help save lives and create a sustainable and safe mobility environment. Your role in the agency is crucial for promoting road safety and creating a safer transportation environment.”

Goran shares that he joined the Youth Coalition because he believes that as an individual, he can contribute to the activities you are engaged in through your work.

“I would advise all young people who have an affinity for traffic to join your organization. I look forward to some future activities together and I am at your disposal.”
