7 July 2023 - In order to increase public awareness of road safety and support the UN Road Safety Week 2023, the Indonesian Government through the Ministry of Transportation launched National Road Safety Week 2023 on Saturday at the National Monument, Jakarta.

Alongside the UN Road Safety Week theme of #RethinkMobility, the Ministry of Transportation carried out its own theme of “Teman Sejati” (True Friends), the abbreviation for “Selamat di Jalan dan Hati-Hati” (Safe on the Road and Be Careful).

Director of Road Transportation Means, Danto Restyawan in his opening remarks stated that the purpose of this activity was to increase public awareness of traffic safety and road transportation so as to create a culture of order and obedience in road traffic.

"Based on the data on the number of accidents released by the Indonesian Police, it is appropriate for all stakeholders to show concern for road traffic safety issues in Indonesia. For this reason, the President has issued Presidential Regulation No. 1 of 2022 concerning the National Road Safety General Plan (RUNK) with the aim of reducing the fatality index by 65% per 100,000 population and 85% fatality index per 10,000 vehicles by 2040, "explained Danto.

The series of the National Road Safety Week this year included; (1) the National Road Safety Week kick-off and the launching of Cycling Anywhere to Save the Earth by Royke Lumowa, (2) the Children's Creation Stage, (3) Jamboree “Teman Sejati”, and the (4) Peak of the Event “National Road Safety Week 2023”.

The event was attended by 500 participants including elements from the government, community, road users, and students who are expected to become an extension in voicing road safety.
