NO TE DISTRAIGAS
BY Ezzie Naidich FROM ARGENTINA
#NoTeDistraigas (#Don'tGetDistracted)
Motivated by a Youth Consultation that coincided with a local problem Ezekiel and his team were already worried about, the group decided to designed and propose #NoTeDistraigas, which is focused on raising awareness on distracted driving.
The number of drivers who use their phones while keeps rising, especially during these last pandemic years and we believe that people need to understand the risks and dangers that come with it. We are working to have the government enforce the prohibition of distracted driving, particularly with the use of mobile phones and other gadgets.
#NoTeDistraigas is an awareness and agenda-setting campaign with three main actions; the first is to make four short videos for social media that we intend to get shared by local influencers, the second involves taking a stand through a game held in public places, and the last action is to engage with Buenos Aires City’s Legislature and Government policymakers to create and implement stricter laws on distracted driving.
With monthly activities, meetings, and webinars between the officials and our volunteers, we intend to help treat this problem. Our city has made progress in road safety, but this particular aspect has not received much attention. We believe that a nudge like this can help save lives.
The project looks to raise awareness on the dangers of using mobile devices while driving, especially for young people.
ABOUT THE PROJECT LEAD
Ezequiel is 23 years old and is currently finishing her studies on International Relations. She has been an informal educator for the last six years. In 2018, she started volunteering to support road safety projects in Asociación MiNU.
Within the organization, she works as the Education and Road Safety Coordinator. What motivates her the most is to help other people become better versions of themselves. In road safety, she believes that both the participants (who may learn how to protect themselves) and our volunteers will develop skills while working together on projects for change.
PROJECT UPDATES
NO TE DISTRA!GAS (distracted game)
Ezzie and her team created an online game called the "Distracted Game," centred on addressing distracted driving issues, reaching and garnering shares from individuals. The game was shared through a social media campaign dedicated to raising awareness about distracted driving behaviour.
The team also disseminated the "Distracted Game” by engaging and educating young people on the dangers associated with distracted driving.
