Coalition caps off first global awareness campaign! Thanks for your involvement!

The Coalition launched its first global awareness campaign called Lockdown for Youth last December 2020. The campaign began with “Alex” talking about how unsafe she feels when she goes out, adding that she has lost friends and family to this crisis.

The campaign gives off a subversive message, leading the audience to believe that the young leaders are talking about COVID-19 when they were talking about road crashes. When audiences go to the website, it is revealed that, in road safety, we don’t need a lockdown but youth ideas, youth voices, youth involvement, local actions, a seat at the decision-making table, and more.

The goal of the campaign was to raise awareness of the dangers of road crashes. Through the campaign, the Coalition made visible the global road safety crisis and its impact on the lives of young people everywhere.

The campaign ran from 8 December 2020 to 15 January where members of the Coalition spread the message in their respective communities and regions.

Campaign materials were localized and were translated to local dialects by the different regional leads to make the message more relevant to youth across the world. Partners of the Coalition also helped spread the message of the campaign in their respective channels and networks.

The campaign re-emphasizes the demands listed of the youth through the Global Youth Statement for Road Safety. In a post-pandemic world, there is a great need to shape a new future that includes road safety.

The campaign ended with a mask challenge where members of the Coalition and other youth leaders posted a selfie on their social media channels featuring a call to action by the Coalition.
