The webinar will raise awareness on road crashes as the leading killer of young people worldwide. Through his project, Kenny localizes these facts by tackling issues like harassment in transport.

There is a growing need to rethink streets and transport systems as safe spaces that guarantee the safety of children, women, girls and persons with disabilities. “Everyone should have an equal right to move without fear of being run down by speeding vehicles or experiencing harassment. “

According to the official media brief of the event, addressing the transport system involves a systemic change in planning and designing streets from an informed and evidence-based and end-user perspective. This will result in effective policies and community education that improves the everyday experiences of vulnerable road users and motorists. Youth need to be involved and meaningfully engaged in road safety management and leadership.”

The document furthers those road traffic injuries and violence against vulnerable road users are as important as other public health threats like Covid-19 and HIV/AIDs.

”Our evening walks, opportunities to cycle, and general way of living shouldn’t be a death sentence.  It’s time to call out all those uninvited verbal and physical attacks against female road users. We need intentional systems change that makes travelling free and safe for everyone, regardless of their marginalized situations.”

The goal of the campaign and the project overall is to create awareness on the urgency of road safety for young people especially the vulnerable users like children women, and girls by positioning inclusive road safety strategies that put the rights of young people at the forefront.

The campaign also works for the the meaningful participation of young people in decision-making processes in Uganda by March 2022.
