Local Actions winners train motorcycle riders in Cameroon

Local Actions leader lead motorcycle training session for bikers in Cameroon. The training session focused on key road safety reminders that will not only protect the riders but also the road users around them. The following was their message; “Your safety matters to us! As you hit the roads, it’s crucial to prioritise road safety and protect yourself and others.”

Here are the tips they shared with the motorcycle riders;

  • Wear Your Helmet. Protect Your Most Valuable Asset - Always wear a properly fitted helmet. It’s your best defense against head injuries and can save your life in case of a road crash.

  • Be Visible. Reflective Gear and Bright Colors - Make sure you are visible to other road users. Wear reflective clothing and accessories, especially during low-light conditions, to increase your visibility.

  • Follow Traffic Rules. You’re Part of the Traffic - Obey traffic rules, signals, and signs. Remember, you’re sharing the road with other vehicles (and road users), so ride predictably and communicate your intentions with hand signals.

  • Stay Alert. Watch Our for Hazards - Keep your eyes on the road ahead and scan for potential hazards such as potholes, debris, or parked cars opening doors. Stay focused and avoid distractions like using your phone while riding.

  • Maintain Your Bike. Regular Checks for Optimal Performance - Regularly inspect your bike’s brakes, tires, lights, and other essential components. Ensure they are in good working condition before every ride to prevent road crashes caused by mechanical failures.

  • Ride Defensively. Anticipate and React - Be prepared for unexpected situations. Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, watch for turning cars, and be cautious at intersections. Anticipate the actions of others and react accordingly.

  • Ride Sober. Alcohol and Biking Don’t Mix - Never ride a bike under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Impaired judgment and slower reaction times significantly increase the risk of road crashes.
