Revving up the conversation on climate and road safety

 
 
 


Our youth leaders are working hard to make sure that the connection between climate and road safety is well established in the global arena! Organized by FIA Foundation in the lead-up to the High-Level Meeting on Road Safety, Youth Coalition member Shehab Abo Zeid from Egypt is joining a webinar titled Climate Change and Road Safety: Linkages and Challenges happening on Thursday, 19 May, at 11 AM EDT. 

The webinar is supported by the World Health Organization and the UN Regional Commission under the theme “the 2030 horizon for road safety: securing a decade of action and delivery”.

 
 

The event is looking to engage non-profit organizations (NGOs), youth groups, university students, and representatives from the United Nations in discussions around climate and road safety by featuring initiatives and policies that address the importance of creating safer roads and streets. 

The event will also discuss the necessity of providing sustainable and inclusive transport options that are climate-friendly and that lead to a more sustainable future. To highlight the work of different organizations, the event will also talk about different advocacy initiatives such as the #StreetsforLife and #Love30 campaigns which advocate for implementing 30 km/h streets to make communities safer, cleaner, and healthier,

 
 

Shehab Abou Zeid will represent the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety in the panel. Shehab is a program manager of the NADA Foundation for Safety Egyptian Roads. He specializes in empowerment projects and programs. He is responsible for community mobilization projects as well as building partnerships at individual and organizational levels that will further road safety efforts in his local community. 

In the panel, Shehab will join the Chief of the Civil Society Unity from the UN Department of Global Communication Hawa Diallo, Deputy Director of FIA Foundation Avi Silverman, representative of the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety Chika Sakashita, UNEP team for Active Mobility, Digitalisation, and Mode Integration representative Carly Gilbert-Patrick, Deputy Commissioner for Policy and Strategic Initiatives Aissata M.B, Camara, and educator Meleckidzedeck Khayesi.

 
 

The speakers will underscore the significance of the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030 which aims to improve the global road safety situation and reduce traffic-related deaths and injuries. The event will encourage a conversation that will explore the importance of strong partnerships between various sectors to achieve road safety and a more sustainable future.
