Road safety awareness film released by local actions winner

Local actions winner Sana’a Khasawneh has recently released a road safety awareness video the highlights the road safety issues and challenges young people face in Jordan. The video was released for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims to remind youth and other sectors of the devasting effects of road crashes.

The story follows two friends, Ali and Ahmad, on what would have been a happy occasion that was cut short because of a road crash. They represent common scenarios young people would find themselves in while on the road while also highlighting the fact that men are often the most at risk when it comes to experiencing crashes.

The scenario focuses on an important issue among Jordanian youth; seat belt use and speeding. With all these elements in place, the video seeks to raise awareness on key risk factors that puts road users in dangerous situations.

Presenting instances where young people are at risk, the video touches on road user behavior as one of the key elements under the Global Plan for the new Decade of Action for Road Safety. Where it’s important to have safe vehicles and safe infrastructures, all road users - especially motorists - should be aware and should follow road safety laws to ensure their safety and that of everyone around them.

The video leaves watchers with the message; “a moment of recklessness will result in a lifetime of regret. Always be careful on the road so you and the ones you love arrive safely”

The video was shot in streets around Irbid, Jordan, and featured resident actors to localize the message. Sana’a oversaw the project as the Executive Producer, working with the artists and the writers to create an engaging video that still highlights the road safety message.

It was important that young people in Jordan as well as those from around the world recognize themselves when they saw the video and will be able to respond and act according to the situation presented.

It was produced by Bayan Abuta’ema and Taimaa Al-Twaisii, edited by Ahmad Haddad, with music and design by Asem Yousef. The actors were played by Omar Ababneh and Mohammad Al-Attar.
