Young Female Leadership on Sustainable Mobility: Coalition joins Autonomy Paris 2.0

Last Wednesday, April 19, members of the Coalition joined Autonomy Paris 2.0 during the industry talk shows. The session was entitled: Young Female Leadership on Sustainable Mobility – saving lives through local and global action. The discussion focused on what young female leaders demand from partners in terms of getting involved in local and global decision-making efforts around sustainable mobility and urban development. 

The session was moderated by Rafaela Machado, Star Rating for Schools Global Programme Coordinator of iRAP – International Road Assessment Programme and was participated by Minh Vo from the AIP Foundation and the Global Youth Coalition, Laura Daniela Gomez from Despacio and the Global Youth Coalition, Estiara Ellizar from the Ministry of Transport in Indonesia and the Global Youth Coalition, and Dilys Mneney from iRAP – International Road Assessment Programme.

To begin, Estiara shared experiences in working with the Ministry of Transport in Indonesia and gave examples of how young leaders can engage governments and work with them to create solutions to address road safety and sustainable mobility issues.

Project officer of iRAP, Dilys Mneney, built on this point by emphasizing how important it is to connect and engage with partners who can help support road safety efforts in both local and global settings. Dilys showed examples of how iRAP engages organizations at different capacities to ensure safer roads through the Star Rating for Schools methodology.

Moving into a more local setup, Daniela talked about how young people can join decision-making processes in public policies by talking about her work and efforts as a member of the BogΓ³ta Bicycle Board in Colombia. She expressed how important it was for organizations to support young leaders in their efforts to contribute to urban development

Minh talked about the Star Rating for Schools Methodology and how it’s an important tool in keeping roads safe for young people, especially for students. 

To end, the panelists shared what they feel should be the main actions to ensure road safety and sustainable mobility in the community. They gave the following answers; stronger data-gathering efforts, government and community engagement, more participation spaces, and utilization of the top-down approach.
