Remarkable Feminist Voices in Transport 2023

By Yasmine Al Moghrabi

I, Yasmine Al Moghrabi, was honored to receive recognition as one of the "Remarkable Feminist Voices in Transport 2023" through the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), the Transformative Urban Mobility Initiative (TUMI), and Women Mobilize Women.

This prestigious acknowledgment led to my invitation to participate in the TUMI 2023 Conference held in Leipzig, Germany. The Conference commemorated five years of the "Women Mobilize Women" initiative last 23 May 2023.

I actively engaged in the conference by speaking at the Dialogue with the Remarkable Feminist Voices in Transport 2023 where I passionately advocated for meaningful youth participation in transportation. The TUMI 2023 Conference emphasized the pressing need for safe and accessible mobility while highlighting the importance of continuous dialogue and different perspectives to achieve equitable and sustainable transportation.

I also had the opportunity to attend the International Transportation Forum (ITF) Conference during my stay in Leipzig, Germany. I actively participated in a session called “Transport for Sustainable Economies: A Youth Perspective” and ensured that I represented the perspectives of young people.

Additionally, I delivered a comprehensive presentation on the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety at the TUMIT Booth during the International Transport Forum (ITF) Conference.

My presentation emphasized the mission of the Youth Coalition and highlighted the importance of involving youth in designing, implementing, and reviewing road safety policies. Throughout my participation in these conferences, I had the privilege of meeting and interacting with like-minded individuals who shared my commitment to enhancing transportation systems and making them more sustainable, efficient, safe, and responsive to diverse needs and local challenges.

My attendance and participation in the TUMI 2023 Conference and the ITF Conference provided me with valuable opportunities to share my expertise and advocate for the inclusion of youth perspectives in transport and road safety.

Attending road safety conferences that prioritize intergenerational dialogue and recognize the significance of youth viewpoints contributes to the development of more inclusive and effective road safety strategies.

By challenging stereotypes, embracing diverse perspectives, harnessing technological advancements, and empowering youth engagement, these conferences foster collaboration and understanding among individuals of different age groups.

It is crucial to establish spaces where young people are recognized as valuable contributors and decision-makers in road safety, as their insights and experiences can significantly contribute to shaping a safer and more sustainable future for all road users.
