MEET RAY ADRIAN MACALALAG
Ray Adrian Macalalag was born in Iloilo City, Philippines, in 1992, and he is a civil engineer working in the government sector as a Senior Economic Development Specialist, Policy Formulation and Planning Division in the Western Visayas Regional Office of the National Economic and Development Authority.
He has a bachelor's and master's degree in civil engineering and is currently pursuing his second master's degree in transport from the University of Sydney under the prestigious Australia Awards Scholarship. He specialises in road safety, land use and transport policy and planning and is trained in technical writing, mapping, data analytics, and graphics design. Trained by experience as the longest serving editor-in-chief of the university-wide publication during his bachelor's degree in the University of San Agustin, he maintains a blog entitled Ilonggo Engineer where he writes various content about transportation as well as his journey through life.
Starting with his early years as an engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways, he has been collaborating with the Department of Health Western Visayas Center for Health Development since 2016 for road safety initiatives, and with the Philippine Information Agency for training young writers and other government institutions on publication design, photojournalism, and data visualization. As a public servant, he was recently recognized as the Outstanding Regional Technical Employee of the National Economic and Development Authority in the Philippines. He has been a young leader of the International Road Federation Young Professionals Programme for over three years, which gathers young professionals in the road transport sector in the annual Young Professionals Summit.
