Coalition member and GreenLight Initiative Executive Director, Simon Patrick Obi, collaborated with the Ministry of Health and the Federal Road Safety Corps in Nigeria to organize a safety training session for local ambulance and truck drivers as part of the organization’s COVID-19 response efforts around road safety. The road safety training session began earlier this Wednesday, 27 February, at Awka Anambra State.

GreenLight Initiative reported that over 80% of Nigeria’s economic activities hinged on transportation and mobility. From the delivery of food to the mobility of essential workers, transport and mobility prove to be important aspects of day-to-day life.

Because the pandemic continues. Nigeria has seen the continuous spread of the virus with motorists and drivers for truck and ambulance operations being the most affected. Operating under these circumstances could result in injury or the loss of lives.

As a solution, GreenLight Initiative and its partners implemented a pilot COVID-19 response safety training for drivers in six geopolitical regions in Nigeria.

These regions include Abuja, Gambe, Kano, Lagos State, Anambra State, and Rivers State.

The goal of the training was to inform and empower motorists and drivers with road safety knowledge. The participants will learn about basic infection prevention control, basic first aid, use of protective equipment, and road safety measures.

GreenLight Initiative is a youth-led, non-profit organization working to promote road safety and sustainable mobility.
