Coming soon: the #ClaimingOurSpace campaign

The Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety is set to launch its #ClaimingOurSpace campaign during the first quarter of this year. Initiated by the Youth Coalition, YOURS - Youth for Road Safety, the World Health Organization (WHO), TotalEnergies Foundation, and Create2030, the campaign is looking to inspire the creation of different artistic interpretations that tell stories of the road safety situation in different countries and communities.

The campaign is an extension of the Youth Coalition’s previous campaign, the Art for Road Safety Campaign which sought to engage more young people to get involved in road safety efforts and share their experiences with mobility through art and dance. The #ClaimingOurSpace campaign will be a global invitation for young people but will be based in six countries; Argentina, Brazil, India, Jordan, Nigeria, and South Africa.

Through art, the Youth Coalition is looking to empower young people to demand decision-makers to deliver on their commitments to road safety, sustainable mobility, and meaningful youth engagement. The campaign will showcase young people’s leadership, potential, and creativity while sensitizing decision-makers to the road safety realities young people face every day.

Art allows young people to communicate an authentic, powerful message without pressure to confront and harnesses the strengths of youth: creativity, passion, energy, and dynamism.

The contributions and submissions for that campaign that will be gathered online will be combined to create six art pieces that showcase the realities youth face when it comes to the lack of road safety and sustainable mobility in the countries highlighted.

The art pieces will be presented in an exhibit at New York City during the High-Level Meeting on Road Safety happening in July 2022. Get the chance to have your artwork exhibited at the global level!
