Conversation with IGC Winner, Laura Daniela Gomez on Coalition’s first Instagram LIVE
Last week, 3 February, the Coalition broadcasted its first-ever Instagram LIVE and featured a conversation with Impact Generator Challenge (IGC) first-place winner, Laura Daniela Gomez. The goal of the conversation was to help members who want to participate in Local Actions build their project proposal and get started on the process. The LIVE session was hosted by youth advisory board member, Maolin Macatangay.
During the LIVE session, Daniela talked about her experience with the Coalition throughout the implementation of her winning IGC project proposal – the Road Impact Race. She went through the creative process of creating a scavenger hunt that helped raise awareness on road safety and sustainable mobility in Bogota, Colombia.
Daniela talked about the general goal of raising awareness on road safety, sustainable mobility, and a healthy environment among the young people in Colombia. Setting up the project, Daniela made sure that her project was innovative and was a way to help empower the people of the community to be part of the solution.
Creativity was also an important aspect of the success of the project. Daniela talked about how the global pandemic has changed the overall format of the scavenger hunt.
Daniela and her team worked converted the Road Impact Race into an online event. They saw the challenge as a learning experience and made the best of the situation.
Asked about the support she received from the Coalition, Daniela explained that, apart from funding, she also received mentorship and support in bridging connections.
“The Youth Coalition was always there to give mentorship and whenever I had questions, I got very good ideas and support from them. I also had some support with new alliances that could strengthen the project - the Youth Coalition helped us to have that conversation with them”
During the session, Daniela gave tips for members on how they could begin working on their project proposals. “Be creative but be realistic. Include some arts and technology activities [to your proposal”. She also emphasized the importance of being organized and having a clear goal in mind.
To wrap up the conversation, Daniela invited members to send in their proposals for Local Actions.
“I would absolutely recommend other members of the Coalition to apply for this opportunity of Local Actions. I think it is very exciting to see your ideas become a reality and for us, as young people, we don’t have that opportunity as often”
