Global Plan handover: Coalition members share Plan with Brazilian leaders

Coalition member and local actions winner, Bernardo Pietrobelli and his team from Vida Urgente: Fundação Thiago Gonzaga led handover ceremonies of the Global Plan for the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030. The Global Plan discusses the how’s, what’s, and who’s involved to help achieve the target of reducing road-related deaths and injuries around the world. In the Plan, young people are identified as key stakeholders in efforts to achieve the targets listed in the new Decade.

The handover of the Plan is facilitated by the Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety. The initiative supports the Global Launch last 28 October and brings the Plan to local leaders and stakeholders to give them ownership of their road safety projects and initiatives.

According to the Plan, young people play an important role in shaping the future of the transport system. By engaging with local decision-makers, Bernardo and his team are getting commitments to support the road safety initiatives being led by the Youth Coalition and Vida Urgente.

Bernardo and his team shared the Global Plan with local authorities in Rio Grande do Sul, specifically Deputy Secretary Matheus Ayres and Acting Governor Ranolfo Vieira Júnior.

During the handovers, the youth leaders highlighted the importance of prioritizing road safety in government agencies and working on partnerships to create and implement road safety projects that prioritize road users that lead to healthier and more livable cities.

Other members of the Coalition have also handed over the Global Plan to decision-makers in their respective regions. Some include Uganda and Rwanda. The Plan has currently been presented to leaders and decision-makers from over thirty different countries by partners of the Alliance.
