Local actions project uses film to raise awareness on helmet use

In her Local Actions project, Nikita Luthfi Adriyana and her team look to raise awareness of the increase of underage motorcycle drivers at the junior high school level. Nikita and her team are using creative competitions to reach out to students and other audiences, putting forward the importance of upholding road safety in the community. They are supported by SMPN 1 Kertosono - a students’ training arm which supports and holds training competitions on speech, news reading, filmmaking, and more.

The project's current phase revolves around creating a short video that addresses the risks of underage driving. The short video aims to educate viewers to understand the dangers of underage driving, mainly on motorcycles, among students who have not yet received their own driver’s licenses.

According to Nikita, the creation of the video took a lot of planning and collaboration with different stakeholders. The video follows the story of a high school student who usually takes a motorbike to school. It explored a scenario of what could go wrong from driving without a license and things would better if the student had taken a bicycle.

“We hope that through this short video, youths all over Indonesia can understand the dangers of underage driving and realize that a better alternative is available right in front of their eyes.”
