The paper discusses how unsafe roads have posed a significant threat to public health, economic stability, societal well-being, and national interests for numerous decades.

”Road traffic [crashes] constitute the primary cause of death among Morocco’s youth population. This study facilitates a comprehensive exploration of the opinions held by youth in Morocco with regard to decision-making in road safety. Through a rigorous analysis of their perspectives, the research endeavors to scientifically categorize these opinions… The overarching aim is to provide decision-makers with valuable insights to enhance the implementation of effective strategies and actively involve youth in shaping future road safety initiatives.”

Throughout the implementation of his project, El Khalil and his team implemented different consultations and focus group discussions where young people were abole to talk about their work with decision-makers within decision-making and policymaking structures. These conversations guided the outcomes of the project.

The paper highlights the results of El Khalil’s 2022 Project that created an advocacy toolkit for decision-makers in Morocco to achieve meaningful youth involvement to impact the future of safe and sustainable mobility. It also provides a comprehensive analysis of road safety among youth in Morocco, beginning with an examination of demographic characteristics, followed by an exploration of road safety perceptions.

Additionally, the paper discusses the involvement of youth in road traffic [crashes], presenting outcomes from open-ended questions to further enrich the findings while also capturing participants’ opinions and experiences related to road safety in qualitative detail.
