Muros que Hablan implements artistic intervention phase
On October last year, Despacio launched Muros Que Hablan, a project that raises awareness on road safety in Bogota, Colombia through the urban artistic intervention of graffiti. The project invited local artists to design graffiti for a public wall in the local city district of Tesuaquillo.
The project had three phases: the planning phase, the artistic intervention phase, and the analysis of the project impact phase. In late December, Despacio completed the second phase.
Despacio received thirteen (13) proposals which were rated according to originality, content, message, and creativity. The proposals were judged by two road safety experts from Despacio, a representative from the Secretaría de Movilidad de Bogotá, the director of Citizen Culture from Tesuaquillo’s Sports and Recreational Institute, and an urban artist.
Natalia García "Nats Garu" emerged as the winner with her piece "Toda Vida Cuenta" (Every life counts).
The message of the piece Todo Vida Cuenta was to vindicate the importance of life to put aside the excuses that lead humans to recklessly attempt against life, whether consciously or unconsciously. The piece reminds audiences that no situation justifies putting others or oneself at risk.
