Safer Roads, Save Our Lives workshop capped off

In 2022, our youth leader Estiara Ellizar led a road safety workshop for Junior High School 22 Bandung students with the help of iRAP - International Road Assessment Programme and its Star Rating for Schools (SR4S) Methodology. The goal was to provide safer routes for students traveling to and from school by providing the students with road safety knowledge and empowering them to take action.

Earlier this month, Estiara met with representatives of 3M, a multinational conglomerate operating in an array of different fields, to celebrate the achievements made throughout the duration of the workshop such as students taking part in roadside surveys that assessed the safety of the school, interactive discussions, role-plays of students making appeals to decision-makers, and creating and implementing advocacy campaigns.

The road safety workshop resulted in a collection of youth demands on road safety, an advocacy project for the Government of Bandung City seen in the risk management around school zones assessed through the Star Rating for Schools Possibility, and interventions that could change 2-star roads to 5-star ones.

β€œI do believe even with small interventions, we can bring big impact in the future to accelerate our target of a 50% reduction in road-related deaths”
— Estiara Ellizar
