Thank you for following along our Youth Leadership Retreat!

Last week, 1st September, we wrapped our first-ever Youth Leadership Retreat on Road Safety in Madrid, Spain. We brought together 23 young leaders from 18 countries around the world to improve and enhance their knowledge of road safety, sustainable mobility, meaningful youth participation, advocacy, and more!

The Retreat would not have been a success without the participation of our incredible young leaders and the support of our long-standing partners; the World Health Organization - WHO as our Technical Partner, Mapfre Foundation as our Collaborative Partner, and Michelin Corporate Foundation and TotalEnergies Foundation as our Programme Parners.

"TotalEnergies Foundation program is dedicated to empowering young people around the world at many levels. We truly believe that helping young leaders to make informed decisions is a duty and a necessity especially when it comes to road safety, leading cause of death for children and young adults. As young safety leaders, we are counting on you to advocate with your peers locally  in favor of safer mobility and we will continue on supporting opportunities to help you strengthen your expertise in this field!”

SO WHAT'S NEXT?

Our young leaders are back in their regions and will continue to perform their roles within the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety's Leadership Structures. They will continue to represent the Youth Coalition in its work to demand and deliver road safety and sustainable mobility, engage young people, and energize the road safety movement.

"As someone deeply passionate about road safety and gender advocacy, the advocacy session was particularly intriguing to me. The overarching goal of advocacy is to bring about change, and a crucial aspect of growth in this journey is constant monitoring and evaluation. If we do not see any progress, it is important that we recalibrate and re-evaluate our plans. It would be remiss not to mention the delicious meals and the exceptional quality of the hotel – both of which added to the overall experience. Spain, with its unique charm, was superb! I am immensely grateful to the YOURS team for their unwavering support and for bringing me to Europe."
Olufunke Afesojaye Regional Leader, African Region for the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety
