We celebrate two years of youth power!

Earlier this July 7, we officially turned two years old! As a Youth Coalition, we’ve achieved so much in such a short amount of time. We are now represented by over a thousand young leaders from more than a hundred countries worldwide. We’ve been able to fund and support 32 youth-led, grassroots projects and build our members’ skills, knowledge, and understanding of road safety and meaningful youth engagement. We’ve connected with leaders, partners, organizations, and many more who support our efforts to fight the biggest killer of youth; road traffic crashes.

To celebrate our two-year milestones, we organized an interactive online session for our members last July 14. The session was mainly about celebrating our anniversary, highlighting some of our key milestones, and interacting with our incredible members. It was led by one of our youth leadership board members, Alex Ayub.

We began by taking a trip down memory lane, starting off at the 2nd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety, we talked about how we went from engaging 150+ delegates to the Assembly in Sweden to mobilizing over a thousand young leaders from around the world.

Our members played a very important role in our growth. Supporting our efforts are our youth leadership structures; the youth leadership board, the regional leaders, and the SDG Champions. Each structure is a necessary element for implementing our projects, engaging with our members, and building on youth empowerment and meaningful youth participation.

We had some of our youth leaders share their experiences and journey as one of our members and youth leaders. Each speaker shared different moments of their involvement - Oliva shared her journey as a member of the Global Youth Taskforce from the Assembly, Shehab talked about how he was involved during our Art for Road Safety Campaign, and Mariam gave insights on her role as a regional leader and as a youth star under the Star Rating for Schools Programme.

During our celebration, we had some of our members share some testimonies about being one of our members. Jacques Aristote Magloire shares that “the Youth Coalition is a very friendly environment, it’s great for personal development and growing leadership. It’s just great to be part of it!”

Another one of our leaders, Yasmine Al Moghrabi, shared that “It’s a pleasure to be an active member of the Global Youth Coalition that brings together youth voices and empowers us with road safety knowledge.”
