Coalition launches 2nd capacity development session on project management
The Global Youth Coalition launched the second session in its capacity development series last Friday, December 4. The second session was an introduction to project management where YOURS β Youth for Road Safety Executive Director, Floor Lieshout, led the discussion.
The second series gave Coalition members an opportunity to interact with one another through the ice breakers and break-out rooms throughout the session. Because the sessions only cater to forty members at a time, it was easier to address questions and interact with participants.
Floor began the discussion with the four phases of project management; identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Participants were then tasked to work on identifying key stakeholders that are able to provide credible road safety information in their communities. Together, the participants identified whether road safety information from the groups were qualitative or quantitative.
The session continued with participants being guided to identify the difference between goals, objectives, and activities. Using S.M.A.R.T in creating projects was discussed and emphasized for future proposals.
The first part of the session focused on the seven steps that go into project management; goal, objectives, activities, monitoring and evaluation, budget, implementation, and team. Floor pointed out the importance of having the right people work on projects.
βIf you have the right people on your team, half of the projected problems will not arise and the other half will be addressed properlyβ
