Global Youth Coalition will hold first Capacity Development Series this October

The Global Youth Coalition will hold its first Capacity Development Series on an introduction to road safety this Tuesday, 27 October. The session will provide members of the Coalition with knowledge and information on the main theories and concepts behind road safety and sustainable mobility. The session will talk about road crashes, identifying it as the leading killer of young people aged 15 to 29 worldwide.

The session will feature a talk by the World Health Organization (WHO) Director of Social Determinants of Health, Dr. Etienne Krug, and Head of the Global Injury Program of the Imperial College London, George Institution for Global Health, Dr. Margie Peden. 

Throughout the discussion, the session will help determine the member’s existing knowledge on global road safety statistics and the road safety situation in the member’s respective countries or regions.

It will also present updated statistics on the global road safety crisis youth are facing, focusing on the scope and the problem.

A brief lecture on the global road safety situation will be delivered through WHO status reports, advocacy guidelines, and YOURS – Youth for Road Safety action kits. 

The session will also explain road safety risk factors and science-based interventions like the Safe Systems Approach and WHO Good Practice Manuals.

The members will be given access to these documents and will be guided on how to use them for the best results. 

The session will use knowledge assessment and gamification tools to best engage the participants.

 
 

By the end of the session, participants will be able to identify the following; the global road safety problem youth are facing, the regional trends in road safety across the world, and key road safety factors that affect youth. Participants will also be able to understand evidence-based solutions that help make the world’s roads safer for young people.

The first Capacity Development series has a maximum of forty slots and is only available for members of the Coalition and is set to happen on the 30th of October at 3 pm CET.
