Last week, 16 September, the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety held a UN75 Youth Dialogue for Road Safety. The dialogue was between the members of the Coalition and was led by the Youth Advisory Board.

The UN75 Dialogues were launched by the United Nations to mark its 75th Anniversary. The dialogues are meant to gather opinions on development from all over the world. The information gathered will be used to identify the main hindrances toward achieving the global goals and determine possible solutions for addressing these problems.

The group was split by five, each group focusing on an SDG connected with road safety. These SDGs include; SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.

The members of the Coalition identified two major hindrances that delay road safety and sustainable mobility efforts; lack of innovative and engaging information and the lack of government commitment.

Youth leaders have expressed the need for governments to include and involve youth in decision-making efforts. They have also raised the importance of providing youth with information and other capacity development tools so that they are equipped with everything they need to lead the change for safer roads and sustainable mobility.

There was a united call to the UN to engage different sectors and connect them with one another. Youth pointed out that conversations and opportunities should not be limited to specific areas and should also be brought to local communities.

The information gathered from the dialogue will be compiled and submitted to the UN. The results would be presented to world leaders during the 75th UN General Assembly.

The Coalition holds several events and opportunities for its members to connect with other groups and organizations that share the common goal of working for safer roads and sustainable mobility for all.
