Local actions winner delivers road safety education programme in Ghana

Providence and his team from under the Kids' Road Safety Panel met with local educators to discuss the road safety education programme with students from selected schools in Ghana. The team has received permission from the Ghana Education Service to implement the project and has resulted in the creation of media campaigns to further promote road safety in the community.

Providence and his team are working on delivering Amend’s road safety education programme to students which seek to simplify road safety information for young children, teaching and training them to help remind and even educate adults about the importance of safe and sustainable transportation. The team is also working on helping encourage leaders and stakeholders to make commitments to further road safety in Ghana, especially around school zones.

The schools selected include accra Metro and Tema Metro, both located in the Greater Accra Region.

The current situation with the pandemic has resulted in changes in the initial timeline of events but the team has worked hard to make sure that the momentum is ensured. To do this, they added a social media component in their implementation strategies.

Apart from going to schools to engage students and educators, Providence and his team have also organized media campaigns to promote road safety to the wider community. For the campaign, the team is going to utilize graphic designs and videos to create engaging content to get the public more interested and involved.
