Local Actions Winner Sana’a Khasawneh leads the creation of a road safety mural displayed along Shafiq Irshaidat University Street. The initiative was carried out through the Coalition’s local actions project and road safety organization, Deterrent on the Road.

The murals stress three key road safety issues; the importance of wearing a seatbelt, the dangers of distracted driving, and the consequences of speeding. Sana’a created the concept and design, focusing on the most prominent road safety challenges young people face in Jordan. To execute the project, she met up with local artists and local authorities to finalize plans on when to create the mural, the time frame for when it would be finished, and where it would be displayed.

The creation of the mural was in conjunction with a campaign launched by public security in Irbid themed "معاً نصل آمنين" or “Together Safe Arrival”.  It was also carried out in collaboration with Irbid Initiative and the Irbid Municipality whose activities focus on the safety of Jordanian youth.

The mural took around a month to complete, from conceptualization to execution. After it was completed, people walking past the wall took notice and began asking about the project from the school security guard present during the unveiling. It was also reported that young people and other pedestrians took photos with the mural, supporting the message.

The project was funded and supported by the Coalition’s local actions project, specifically Up to Zer0 led by Youth Leadership Board Member, Sana’a Khasawneh. The mural was completed earlier on September 16.
