1. Where are you connected?

I am from Estonia. I have a Bachelor`s Degree in Traffic Safety and a Master`s Degree in Urban Governance. I participated in The 2nd World Youth Assembly for Road Safety in Sweden.

2. How did you first get involved in road safety?

At first, I was involved in road safety when I was studying in driving school. This theme was very interesting to me and because I am a volunteer in Red Cross, we decided to do a traffic safety project for 10th-grade students. Since then this project has been organized every year, it has gained popularity and many students from Tallinn have participated. In 2014 the most logical thing to learn after high school was traffic safety. From there I got lots of new knowledge and many new contacts. After graduation, I started to work in a driving school as a teacher (both practical and theory).

3. How long have you been working in the road safety and sustainable mobility field?

I have been a Red Cross volunteer for 8 years and for 7 years we have done the project “Safely Through the City“ for 10th-grade students. I have been working in a driving school for more than 3 years and in Estonian Road Administration as a Prevention Department expert for almost two years.

4. Tell us about the work you’re doing now

For now, my main job in Estonian Road Administration is to cooperate with different institutions, e.g Estonian Police and Border Guard Board, Red Cross, universities, schools, kindergartens, and local government. We see systematic traffic education throughout life: from pre-school to elderly road users. There is a special traffic education website www.liikluskasvatus.ee in Estonia, which offers important traffic safety information to target groups of all ages. We also support traffic education with many different studies, guidance and information materials, games, and educational films, which are meant for educational institutions, youth, and social centers, driving schools, and other organizations that give traffic education (you can read more here: https://www.mnt.ee/eng/driver/traffic-education).

5. Why did you join the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety?

I joined the Global Youth Coalition for Road Safety because I know there are a lot of problems with road safety all around the world. In the Coalition, there are many youths who would like things to get better, save more lives, and when we are all connected it is easier to communicate and share our experiences.

6. What are your comments on the Coalition? Its activities? Its opportunities?

It’s great to be part of the Coalition since it is an amazing organization. I like that there are different workshops and tools that help youth learn more about road safety all around the world.

7. Any messages for people who have not yet joined the coalition?

When you are an activist in road safety and you want to save lives, then you are very welcome to join the Coalition.
