An efficient and integrated transport infrastructure network is one of the crucial drivers of economic growth and increased road safety. In Uganda, road infrastructure facilities are shared between motorized vehicles and non-motorized vehicles. This results in increased road crashes in the area, as reflected in the Uganda Police Report 2021. The situation could be improved if there were strong road safety policy interventions, better infrastructure development, and increased awareness programs for the community.
The Promotion of Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) Infrastructure Usage in Kampala, Uganda looks to sensitize people on the realities road users face on Ugandan roads and influence NMT policy reviews in the city. The project will engage youth in the Kampala metropolitan area, the Mwamba Development Agency , policymakers, school children, and the media.
The activities of the project will include; rapid assessment, development of resource materials, community mapping and mobilization, training of trainers, media engagement, awareness raising and monitoring and evaluation activities with a collaborating partner, the Uganda Road Accident Reduction Network Organization (URRENO).
