Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps supports Local Actions initiative

Local Actions winner Simon Patrick Obi and his team from GreenLight Initiatives continue to engage policymakers and decision-makers, promoting the importance and necessity of meaningful youth participation in road safety efforts. Their most recent undertaking has led them to get the support of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The FRSC is a road safety organization working to eradicate road traffic crashes and create safe monitoring environments in Nigeria. Their mission is to regulate, enforce, and coordinate all road traffic and safety management activities through sustained public awareness, promotion of stakeholder cooperation, management and improvement of vehicle administration, and more.

For their activity, Simon and some Youth Coalition members in Abuja, Nigeria paid a courtesy visit to the Zonal Commanding Officer of the FRSC, Mr. Shehu Mohammed. The team discussed an upcoming intergenerational dialogue between youth and decision-makers with Mr. Mohammed.

Through the visit, Simon and his team were able to get the opportunity to push for meaningful youth involvement in road safety within the FRSC. They were also able to present our Policymakers’ Toolkit to the Zonal Commanding Officer, Assistant Corps Commandant Shehu Mohammed.

“For us in, Nigeria we want to sort of organize an intergenerational dialogue like a stakeholders forum and see how we can meaningfully engage young people who constitute the large proportion of casualties on road crashes.” Simon Patrick Obi

According to Nigeria's local publication, This Day, the Zonal Commander Operations Road Safety 7 Headquarters, ACM Shehu Mohammad expressed his appreciation for the GreenLight Initiative and said that a committee would be formed to guarantee that the initiative was carried out.
